    Historical Examples of Network-Scale Innovation

    The same way the personal computer changed how we communicate and our personal productivity, AVs can transform how we move.

    By examining the network-scale experiences of other catalyzing technologies, particularly the Interstate Highway System and the internet, there are three key points we can apply to future predictions on AVs:

    1. The benefits can be significantly underestimated
    2. We cannot fully anticipate the breadth of the impact
    3. Barriers to adoption will erode over time


    Overall, the lesson of the past is that while some of the costs and downsides of a new technology may be more visible in its early stages, the full scale of its positive impacts rarely are.
